Jordan
Jordan is a country in the Middle East. Border countries are Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Israel and the West Bank of Jordan.
Jordan is a monarchy with a strong power to King Abdullah II of the Hashemite royal family, who consider themselves descendants of the Prophet Muhammad.
Lots of civilizations and empires existed in Jordanian soil. Some of the historical kingdoms that had their capitals on Jordanian soil, the Canaanite, the Edomite, the Moabites. There are other civilizations had political sovereignty in Jordan such as: Akkadian, Assyrian, Judean, Babylonian and Persian empires, Pharaonic Egypt, the Hasmonean Dynasty of Maccabees. Probably the best known civilization in Jordan was the Nabatean civilization. They left rich archaeological remains at Petra. Actually, the Arabic alphabet born Nabateans in Petra.
Western civilizations, which ruled Jordan includes Macedonian, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Turkish empires. Since the seventh century, the area has been under Muslim and Arab cultures, except for a brief period of Crusader rule and a brief period under British rule.
Before independence in 1946 was Jordan with Palestine mandate territory was ruled by Britain.
After the Six Day War in 1967, Jordan lost its territories west of the Jordan River.
