Isle of Man is an island in the Irish Sea. The island is under the British Crown, but is autonomous. Besides English, the Celtic language Manx as the only place in the official language of the island.

Geography
Isle of Man is one of the British Isles and lies in the Irish sea for approx. equidistant from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Because of its location, the island has a humid maritime climate with mild winter and cool summer.

The 572 km ² island is predominantly hilly. The highest point is 621 meters high Snæfell. The northern part is flat and is created by deposition of sediments. With an extent of 52 km times 22 km island has a coastline of 160 km. The longest river Sulby, has a length of 17 km. Southwest of the Isle of Man lies 2.6 km ² large island of Calf of Man.

History
People from Britain and Ireland began to sail to the Isle of Man around 8000 BC and settle. They first lived in small houses that looked like shields, and they lived by hunting, fishing and berry picking. They used small tools made of flint or bone, has been found on the shore. These specimens are now found at Manx Museum. [3]

Neolithic

In Neolithic farmers came together with better stone and benredskaber and pots. It was during this period that the megalithic monuments erected on the island. The largest of the period is ‘Cashtal yn Ard’ near Maughold, ‘King Orry’s Grave’ in Laxey, ‘Meayll Circle’ near Cregneash and ‘Ballaharra’ Stones in St. John’s. Megalitkulturen, however, was not universal. There was also the local Ronaldsway and Bann-culture culture.

Bronze Age
In the bronze age was raised mounds, and many megalitgrave were destroyed.

The Braaid found in the core of the Isle of Man with imitations of contemporary Nordic round houses and longhouses from approx. 650 to 950 BC There are two round houses and a longhouse.

Iron Age
With the Iron Age begins the Celtic heyday. Store forts located on hill tops, and small forts found at shore’s rocks. Around 700 BC there were immigrants from Ireland who settled down and changed society. At the same time changed the language. Manx Gaelic is very similar to Irish and Scottish Gaelic. [6]

Viking settlement on the Isle of Man began in the late 8th century. They traveled rune. The Vikings founded in the year 979 BC founded Tynwald, perhaps the oldest parliament in the world. Transportation

There is no speed limit for driving in the Isle of Man. The only commercial airport on the island is in Ronaldsway.
