Coral Sea Islands

Coral Sea Islands are Australian external territory of the Coral and Tasman Sea beyond the Great Barrier Reef on the Queensland coast. Includes a number of mostly uninhabited tropical islands and coral reefs. Territory of the total water area occupies 780 000 km².

The area was established in 1969th g., separating it from Queensland. 1997th g. it was expanded to cover 800 km to the south, Middleton and Elizabeth Reefs.

The area is an Australian owned and is managed from Canberra by the Department of Justice through. Several islands are maintained in an automatic meteorological station and the only inhabited island in the Willis Island, which since 1921st g. the weather station with a staff of 3-4 people.
