Bouvet Island
Bouvet Island is an uninhabited volcanic island in the South Atlantic Ocean, south-southwest of the Cape of Good Hope (South Africa). It is almost completely covered by glaciers and is difficult. It has no port calls only anchorage off the coast.
It was discovered in 1739 by French naval officer, Jean-Baptiste Charles Bouvet they Lozier, as the island was named after. No claim was made until 1825 when the British flag was hoisted. In 1928, the UK waived its claim to the island in favor of Norway, who years previously had occupied the island. In 1971, Bouvet Island and the surrounding waters were designated a nature reserve. Since 1977, Norway has an automated meteorological station on the island
