Botswana
Republic of Botswana is a state in southern Africa. The country has no sea access. Botswana was formerly the British protectorate of Bechuanaland, Botswana and took its name after independence within the Commonwealth was achieved on 30 September 1966. To the south is Botswana border with South Africa, west to Namibia in the north to Zambia and Zimbabwe to the northeast. The economy, which is closely linked to South Africa, is dominated by mining, particularly for diamonds, also cattle and tourism. The country is named after its largest ethnic group, tswana. The capital is Gaborone.
History
The area has been inhabited for thousands of years, partly rock paintings in Tsodilo shows.
Before the colonial period consisted area of several small kingdoms under the leadership of tswana. Because of pressure from immigrants should kingdoms asked for help from the British. United Kingdom Brian included protection agreements with Tswana-rulers, and the area was in the period 1885 to 1966 the largest British protectorate in southern Africa. In 1961 the inhabitants limited autonomy and the first political parties were formed. On 30 September 1966 Botswana gained its independence.
