Barbados

Barbados is an island in the archipelago of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. It is one of the world’s smallest but most densely populated countries. Island, with its 430 km ² smaller than Bornholm, but with almost 300,000 inhabitants with a population density of more than 7 times as high.

History
The island was uninhabited when the British began to settle on it in 1627. It was built sugar plantations with slave labor until 1834, when slavery was prohibited. Social and political reforms were gradually implemented in the 1940s and 1950s and led to independence from Britain in 1966.

Nature and environment
In August 2008, was discovered by the world’s smallest snake reported. There was the little snake Leptotyphlops Carla (en. Barbados Threadsnake) from snake family Counterfeit worm tubes. The snake, which, as fully grown only 10 cm long, was discovered in Barbados in one of the few remaining small forest areas where it is probably endemic.
